Welcome to what is sadly our last Edition as editors of Flycast.

After retirement in 2005, we travelled down the East Coast from Port Douglas to Mallacoota before finally settling in Camden Haven as our “forever home” twelve years ago. At that time we thought we would never be grandparents but that changed a little over three years ago with the arrival of our distant Junior member Zoey. For such a little person she has made a huge difference to our lives and we have decided to return to Darwin.

We love this area of NSW and do not regret living here for the past twelve years. The Hastings Fly Fishers Club has been a major part of our lives down here and although we are relocating we will remain as (very) distant members.

We had no experience in fly fishing but were made to feel welcome from first meeting with life member Bob Dove and some other members at the Laurieton market. We found all members of the Club were happy to share their knowledge and experience to newcomers.

It may be some time before we have a fixed address in Darwin, but we will keep in touch with the Club through emails and google group so expect some photos of our fishing exploits. Hopefully these may tempt some members to make the trip North once we are settled as we will have somewhere for visitors to stay and can supply some local knowledge.

Although I have fished extensively in the Darwin area, I never fished there with a fly. We intend to join the Darwin Flyrodders Club in order to fill this gaping hole in our fishing lives and with any luck will be able to pass our new-found wisdom to any HFFC visitors.

I would like to thank all members of the Club for their friendship and the experiences we enjoyed over the past few years, you made our stay in this part of Australia truly memorable.

As the Scots say, “long may your lum reek” (ask Wilma for the translation if needed).
