HFF Flycast, July-September 2024
Hello everyone, and welcome to this combined edition of our Newsletter, covering July, August, and September. If you’ve been keeping track, you may have noticed that this edition spans three months instead of the usual bi-monthly format. August and September were a bit hectic, with a lot of time spent in Sydney, which delayed the release of the September newsletter. I apologise for the delay.
Club Update: AGM and Leadership
A lot has happened over the past few months. We had a successful Annual General Meeting (AGM) in July, where I was re-elected as President. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank all those who continue to play vital roles within the club:
- Julian as Vice President
- Robin as Treasurer
- Ron/Dawn as Secretary
- Don, Michael, and Dick as Committee Members
Additionally, a big thank you to Paul and Sandy for stepping in as Assistant Secretary when Ron is unavailable. I’m confident that, with this leadership team, we’re set for another successful year.
I’m also deeply honoured to share that I was named Club Member of the Year for the second time by our Life Members. Thank you all for this special recognition!
Focus on Club Growth and Financial Health
Our goal is to make the club an enjoyable place for all members where we can participate in various activities and improve our skills in fly fishing. The Executive team is always open to suggestions and constructive feedback from members, as we work toward making the club better.
Thanks to the generosity of our members, ongoing support for raffles, and some innovative fundraising ideas from Dawn, including the ‘150 Club’, I’m happy to report that the club’s financial situation is looking much healthier compared to several months ago.
Dunmore Trip and Outings Report
I’m thrilled to bring you highlights from our recent trip to Dunmore, where we had the pleasure of catching up with one of our distant members, Peter Glasson. In fact, Peter had the good fortune of drawing his own ticket to win the attendance prize, continuing a fun club tradition!
As the prize winner, Peter has also taken on the responsibility of writing the outings report. His reflections can be found on pages 10-11, and they are truly worth the read. Thanks again to Peter for his excellent contribution.
I’d also like to extend my appreciation to Trish Rogers and Michael Kowalski for sending in some great photos from the trip. If any members come across articles or information that might interest others, please feel free to send them my way. I’ll do my best to include them in future editions of the newsletter.
Looking Ahead: Christmas Party and Upcoming Events
As we approach the end of another fishing year, our annual Christmas Party is just around the corner. This year, it will be held at our usual venue, the Newport Lifestyle Village, on Sunday, 24th November. We hope to see you all there for what promises to be a fantastic event!
Additionally, next year, likely in March, we will be collaborating with our colleagues from Coffs Harbour, as well as Brian Henderson, for the Harrington Fly Fest. Stay tuned for more details!
Final Thoughts
Thank you all once again for your ongoing support and engagement with the club. I, along with the other members of the Executive, look forward to another year filled with camaraderie, exciting activities, and, of course, great fly fishing.
Tight Lines!
David
