HFF Flycast, March/April

Volume 15, No. 11, March/April 2024

Welcome to our Newsletter for March and April.

Dave' first carp

During the last few months the we have managed two successful outings (see reports in the Newsletter) one to Nundle and more recently to South West Rocks.

The Club also had some great publicity in the local FOCUS (April ed.) magazine. This has resulted in a number of inquiries, and some possible members. Speaking of members, I am pleased to welcome Mark McCann (from Taree) and Ben Mollard as two new members of HFF. I hope you both have a long and enjoyable association with the Club.

As a result of a couple we met at the last Lake Cathie Autumn Fair, I have also given information (and some photos) about our Club to them. The Club should have a information piece in the next edition of the Camden Haven Chronicle. Again, hopefully this will be some excellent publicity for us.

Recently Ron, Dawn and I travelled to Newcastle to meet up with a previous member of our Club — John Rothwell. John had contacted Dawn to say that he would like to donate his fly fishing gear to the club. So we now have a couple of rods, a selection of reels, a vest, a range of flies, fly tying materials, and other assorted goodies.

Bob Dove (a Founding Life Member) who, unfortunately, is not in the best of health, has also donated a number of fly tying materials/equipment — including a vice, and various books.

Some of these items will be used for major raffle prizes (at the AGM/Christmas Party), others for our monthly raffles and/or offered for sale to members. This will undoubtedly help out our club coffers, and we thank both John and Bob for there generosity. A formal letter of thanks has been sent to both John and Bob.

On Sunday 21st April a number of members attended the Laurieton River Walk Markets. The weather on Saturday night made it look like it could result in us cancelling, but Don made the call early on Sunday morning, and we went ahead, Fortunately, despite some winds, the weather was generally pretty kind to us, and other stall holders, and we had quite a good morning at the markets.

We will also be at the Lake Cathie Autumn Fair on Saturday 11th May.

As always, if anyone comes across articles or other information that may be of interest to members, please send them to me for publication in future editions. And a big thank you to those who have already done so.

David
