Welcome to the June edition of Flycast.

We enjoyed our short sojourn with the family in Darwin although once again no fly fishing. It seems that actual fly-fishing guides are in short supply in Darwin even though there is a very active fly fishing club. However, we are guaranteed that when we return in August we will be locked in for the 25th. Hope to be bragging that I caught a beauty as large as the one in my photo above, but this time on fly.

As you are aware our club is affiliated with FFI and our Patron Brian Henderson is the only instructor in the Southern Hemisphere with all three International Federation of Fly Fishers (IFFF) Casting Certificates and one of only approximately fifty in the world.

But I digress, what I was leading up to is that this month of June is FFI Women’s Fly Fishing Month. To celebrate Women’s Fly Fishing Month, in this issue we will be featuring our one and only HFFC female fly fisher, the much appreciated and loved Dawn Hopkins, as we retrace her fly fishing journey. Perhaps Dawn’s story will inspire other women out there to take up fly fishing. Not sub-editor Bonnie, please! as I would be to Bonnie as Dawn is to Ron, sorry Ron but you all know what I mean.

Also in this issue we bring to you as promised our Secretary Ben’s new toy. Ben makes his living selling boats so I for one couldn’t wait to see what Ben has chosen, why that boat and what accessories he has added to make his boating more enjoyable and to increase his success on the fishing front. There are a few new gizmo’s that have arrived on the scene since I outfitted my boat and what is now available has me staggered (and not a little con- fused.) I guess a few of us will have to catch up with the latest technology.

Rodney and Julian finally made it to North Queensland fishing the Hinchinbrook Passage with guide Clinton Isaac. Next issue I hope to have some photo’s of their success.
