Vale Geoff Field

Gone fishing...

It is with deep sadness that we mark the passing of long-time member Geoff Field in October 2025. Geoff was a true gentleman of the Hastings Fly Fishers—warm, generous, and always ready with a smile. He loved nothing more than sharing a river, a yarn, and a laugh with his fellow members. From the unforgettable canoe trip at West Kunderang to winning Tony Bendei

ch’s handcrafted Spey reel, Geoff’s time with the club was filled with camaraderie, humour, and heartfelt moments. His kindness, humility, and good humour left a lasting imprint on all who knew him. Geoff will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.

Vale Jim Eccles

Gone fishing...

In July 2019, the joy of celebrating our 10th anniversary was tempered with sorrow as we mourned the loss of two beloved members—Life Member Tony Bendiech and James “Jim” Eccles. He first discovered fly fishing after chatting with members at a Demo Day in Settlement City and was inducted into the Hastings Fly Fishers on 10 July 2013. From Harty’s Plains and Ellenborough to Settlement Point, Lake Cathie, and Googleys Lagoon, Jim found joy on the water and in the company of friends. He was a regular at Fly Tie Nights and social gatherings, remembered fondly for his steady presence, gentle nature, and love of the sport.
