HFF Flycast, Sept/October 2025

One of several fish caught (on fly) on Castaway Fishing Charters

Welcome to the latest edition of the Hastings Fly Fishers newsletter — and what an edition it is! This issue is packed with stories, photos, trip reports, and reflections from a very full few months, including:

  • Vale Geoff Field
  • September Outing to Dunmore Trout Waters
  • October Outing to Harrington
  • Casting for Recovery and Ebor Trip
  • Michael’s Adventure to Kiribati

It’s been a busy time behind the scenes as well. November brought the usual rush of school formals and major Christmas events at Panthers, making time a rare commodity. On top of that, this has turned out to be one of our biggest issues yet — 27 pages of contributions, photos, and club moments. A huge thank-you to everyone who continues to share content; seeing your pictures and reports come in is a real highlight for us, so please keep them coming!

Competition Time! – Hunt for the Moustache

To celebrate our newest club member — Ron’s very manly moustache — we’re running a bit of festive fun. Somewhere in this newsletter, that glorious moustache is hiding.

The first person to email Fleur with the correct page number and a description of where the moustache appears will be IMMUNE FROM FINES for the rest of the year.

Good luck, good hunting, and may the best moustache-spotter win!

From the President’s desk, there’s also plenty to celebrate as we near the end of another fishing year. Our Club has been active and visible in the community — from the Riverwalk Markets and mentoring programs to casting practice, joint events with Coffs, and our involvement in Casting for Recovery at Ebor. We’ve enjoyed great outings across the region, learned new skills, and spent time together doing what we love.

Looking ahead, 2025 is shaping up beautifully. Mark your calendars for the Harrington Fly Fest in March, the Lake Keepit trip, and the big May expedition to Weipa. We’re also returning to Dunmore for the October long weekend. And of course, we hope to see everyone at the Christmas Party on Sunday 30th, held at the Newport Village Function Room.

As the year wraps up, we wish all our members, families, and friends a wonderful Christmas and a safe, happy New Year. Thank you for your continued support, enthusiasm, and contributions. Here’s to another great year of fishing, learning, and community.

Tight lines, everyone!

Ben & Fleur
