HFF Flycast, December 2022
Volume 15, No. 5, December 2022
Welcome to our last HFF Newsletter for the year.
On Sunday the 28th, thirty members attended our yearly Christmas Party at the Newport Village, which I think from the feedback received, everyone seemed to enjoy. As usual, Tru-Blu catering fed us very well with a great selection of roast meats, veggies and salads. Rumour has it that Ron was able to restrict himself to only two or three deserts this year!
We were well entertained by the “Blokes Notes” and thanks go to Julian for organising that. Their selection of songs and harmonies were terrific. We presented the “Blokes” with a cheque for $100, which I understand will be donated to the local Women’s refuge.
As usual, we had some great raffles, with Ron taking home one of the major prizes — a fishing vest that had belonged to Phil Bush. I am sure by his reaction, Ron will wear this with pride during our trip to NZ.
We also has another trivia quiz, which seemed far too easy! It was won by the table where Ann happened to be sitting — and despite some circulating and scurrilous allegations, she had no inside knowledge!
Thanks go to a number of people who helped make this day such a success, especially Dawn for organising some great raffles, Sue Shenton who baked a couple of great Chrissie cakes, Paul for organising the venue, and all those who assisted with the set-up and clean-up afterwards. The venue looked great.
Hi guys, sorry for this very belated email. I will start at the beginning – always a good place to start. The drive up was a dream. Very little traffic and we were virtually the only vehicle travelling north once we left civilisation. When we arrived the family were all sick with the flu bronchitis and sore ears so we did some nursing. When things started to get a bit more normal we went to some open houses – none met with all we were after.
We eere sad that a property that we really wanted, and had been monitoring from Laurieton, was sold – or so the real estate agent said – even though no under offer/contract appeared on the net. We were driving down the same street to just eyeball another property when I said to Iain there is still not a sold sign on the board out front. So I saw a man in the garage and decided to go in and ask him what the go was. He said that it was for sale as the third sale had just fallen through and would we like to come in and see the house. We bought it on the spot as we already knew we wanted it.
Amazingly, he is an NT copper who has been transferred to Alice Springs and had to be there this Monday. He was stressed to the max as was his wife. It was meant to be! We have four bedrooms and a granny flat and man cave for Iain. So come one come all. All HFFC welcome.
So what we would really like to say is that we have been thinking about you and missing you. Please pass on our regards to everyone and we will be thinking of you on Sunday and wishing we could join you for the Xmas party it all seems a little surreal to us at the moment. Loving the family time though.
Missing you all.

I would like to wish all members and their families, a safe and happy Christmas, and all the very best for a fishable 2023.
Hope to see you in the New Year on a sandflat or a river somewhere.
David
