Willow Grubs, Glo-Bugs and Mop Flies

This month’s fly tying will be three flies Willow grubs, Glo-bugs and Mop Flies.

Willow Grub – Materials

  • Hook – Size 16 or 18 dry fly.
  • Thread – Invisible thread (sewing section in Woolies or Coles).
  • Body – Ultra Chenille Micro Fl Chartreuse or yellow. Yellow for NZ.

Glo-Bug – Materials

  • Hook – Size 16 or 18 scud hook
  • Weight – Four turns of .015 lead free wire
  • Thread – Invisible thread to tie on the bug. Woolly nylon to make the bug.
  • Body – Pompom, colour of your choice.
  • Needles and foam for construction.
Glo-Bugs

Mop Fly – Materials

  • Hook – Assorted scud
  • Thread – Woolly nylon
  • Eyes – Bead chain
  • Hackle – End bits from your Scrap hackle box.

Never throw away any end bits of hackle. Small bits can be used to clean glue from hook eyes and remains can be used for other flies.
