Three Piece Wiggly Worm Fly
The Three Piece Wiggly Worm Fly is an easy fly to tie and doesn’t take much time. If it is only a one-fish fly it isn’t such a big deal if a fish cuts any of the rubber with its teeth.
Materials
- Bobbin threader
- Thread to match the colour of the tendril
- Size 8 scud hook
- Copper bead to fit
- Rubber worm tendrils
Tying Instructions
- Put the bead on the hook.
- With the hook in the vice use a bobbin threader to pull one piece of Paul’s worm tendrils (T) through the bead. Uncut end first.
- Make a small 45 degree cut at the end of the T sticking out of the bead.
- Hold both ends of the T, stretch it and move it and the bead up against the eye of the hook. Only the small 45-degree cut should be sticking out the bead.
- Wrap the thread around the hook and bring it back to the small part of the T, push the bead up against the eye of the hook and tie them off.
- Wrap the thread back to the bend in the hook and back to just behind the bead.
- Make another 45-degree cut on a second piece of T. Tie in right behind the eye. Stretch the T and wrap the thread back to bend in the hook. Keep the stretched T on your side of the hook and as you wrap. It will wind up on top of the hook. Make sure the last wrap of thread places the T on top of the hook.
- Return the thread back to the eye.
- Make another 45-degree cut on a third piece of T. Tie it in right behind the eye
- Turn you vice if you can so the hook is on its side. Stretch the T and wrap it back to the bend in the nook and then back to behind the eye. Tie it off.
- Multiple whip finish and cut your thread. The fly is finished now.
Don’t use any glue, Sally Hansen’s or anything else on the fly. If you, do it will melt all the rubber tendrils.
